Sahar Jaberian’s FYAB Collection and Tehran’s Fashion Renaissance

Sahar Jaberian, a visionary fashion designer from Tehran, is revolutionizing the city’s fashion scene with her innovative designs that transcend conventional boundaries. Having graduated from the prestigious Istituto Marangoni Paris, Jaberian brings a unique perspective to both womenswear and menswear, pushing the limits of creativity and expression.

At the heart of Jaberian’s work lies the rich tapestry of Iran, with all its complexities and contradictions. She draws inspiration from the country’s paradoxes, struggles, and moments of joy, weaving them into captivating narratives that come alive through her collections. Collaborating with fellow artists, Jaberian infuses her designs with a multidimensional essence, creating pieces that resonate deeply with her audience.

One of her most striking collections, FYAB, challenges societal norms and sheds light on issues that are often shrouded in secrecy. FYAB, which stands for “F*** Your Abortion Ban,” is a bold statement against restrictions on reproductive rights. Through intricate designs and symbolic imagery, Jaberian explores the emotional journey of women facing difficult choices, from love and fertility to wisdom and war, culminating in the theme of rebirth.

Central to the FYAB collection is the use of symbolism and craftsmanship. Jaberian incorporates embroidered messages onto garments, boldly proclaiming the collection’s message. Additionally, she collaborates with jewelry designers to create pins that transition from symbols of fertility to representations of abortion, using distinctive stones to convey the transformation from darkness to light.

In each collection, Jaberian experiments with various mediums, from broken embroideries to reversed termeh, creating an abstract vision that captivates the imagination. Hand-made embroideries and artisanal jewelry add depth and texture to her creations, further enhancing their appeal.

Through her work, Sahar Jaberian challenges conventions, sparks conversations, and empowers individuals to embrace their identities and beliefs. As she continues to push the boundaries of Tehran’s fashion scene, she remains a beacon of creativity and resilience, inspiring others to embrace change and forge their own paths in the world of fashion.
