It also incorporates elements of UK garage, experimental electronic, and techno, creating a sound that appeals to both underground and mainstream audiences.

The production, which has become a hallmark of Asal’s style, is precise and layered. Liars & Players is more than just a song; it’s a showcase of Asal’s innovative artistry and her ability to push the boundaries of genre and style.

2. Hiphopologist x Vinak - Belaad

The track Belaad represents a pivotal moment in the careers of Hiphopologist and Vinak, marking the beginning of a new chapter following the launch of their label, also named Belaad. This song encapsulates everything Persian rap fans needed to understand about the duo’s evolving artistic vision. Through its compelling lyrics and striking music video, it vividly portrays the essence of their creative direction within the context of their new label.

In Belaad, Hiphopologist and Vinak deliver a masterful performance, riding over a boom-bap beat expertly crafted by Ashkan Kagan. The beat, with its nostalgic old-school vibe, perfectly mirrors the label’s foundational goals, blending innovation with a reverence for the roots of rap. What makes Belaad so significant in the history of Persian rap is not just its sound, but the clear statement it makes about the duo’s intentions.

From the very outset of their partnership, Hiphopologist and Vinak established a strong, distinct voice within the genre. They weren’t simply two artists collaborating on a track or album; they set forth a well-defined discourse and a purposeful mission. Their partnership signaled the arrival of a formidable force in the Persian rap scene—one that would go on to challenge the norm and inspire both established and up-and-coming artists alike.

This groundbreaking debut track laid the foundation for a series of subsequent projects, including the album Peymod be Shemroon and notable tracks like La Mamura and Belaad Party. Each release was met with widespread acclaim, solidifying their place as pioneers of a new era in Persian rap. The energy and excitement surrounding their work continue to resonate with rap enthusiasts, making Belaad not just a song, but a cultural statement.

3. Amiir Sardaar - Doone Koochooloo

One of the standout achievements in Iran’s indie music scene in 2024 is the heartfelt track Doone Koochooloo by Amiir Sardaar. Over the past year, Amiir has carved out a unique niche for himself, primarily by sharing acoustic renditions of songs spanning various genres on social media while releasing only a handful of original tracks in diverse styles. This selective yet multifaceted approach reveals a deeply personal and intentional trajectory in his artistic journey, situating him as a compelling figure in Iran’s alternative music scene.

It’s a path that has not only set him apart but also earned him a devoted and eclectic audience, marking a significant milestone in his career this year. Doone Koochooloo exemplifies the idea that true artistic success doesn’t always stem from complexity. On the contrary, the song thrives on its simplicity, both in its lyrical depth and minimalist production. The magic of the track lies in its ability to weave a metaphorical narrative that resonates deeply with listeners, delivered in the most straightforward and unpretentious manner. It’s a lesson in how stripping away the unnecessary can sometimes yield the most profound emotional impact. With Doone Koochooloo, Amiir Sardaar proves that simplicity, when executed with precision and authenticity, can be an incredibly powerful artistic tool. What makes Amiir’s presence in Iranian music so compelling is his refusal to adhere to predefined norms.

Over the past year, he has showcased an impressive range of musical versatility. On one hand, he has covered iconic tracks like Keshti by Ali Sorena and Goosht by Bahram Nouraei, offering his own acoustic interpretations. On the other hand, he has demonstrated a willingness to explore entirely different styles, collaborating with Heen on an electronic track or crafting a thematic piece like Doone Koochooloo. This dynamic approach to music not only sets him apart but also positions him as a source of inspiration for a new generation of Iranian musicians, proving that success in the alternative scene doesn’t have to come at the cost of creative freedom.

In essence, Amiir Sardaar’s journey—and particularly the success of Doone Koochooloo—serves as a testament to the evolving landscape of Iran’s alternative music scene, where authenticity and individuality reign supreme. Through his music, he challenges young artists to embrace their uniqueness, experiment fearlessly, and create without boundaries, making his contributions in 2024 as impactful as they are inspiring.

4. Golsa x Keyhan - Shabhaye Tehran

The song Shabhaye Tehran, a collaboration between Keyhan—an Iranian producer and pianist based in Los Angeles renowned for his contributions to Electronic music—and Golsa, one of the leading figures in Iran’s alternative music scene in recent years, stands as a highlight among our magazine’s top 20 Iranian songs of 2024. Its inclusion on the list was never in doubt during the selection process, as it represents a benchmark for the year’s music. Arguably one of the most exceptional EDM tracks with vocals produced in Iran this year, Shabhaye Tehran is a testament to the creative synergy between Keyhan and Golsa, despite the geographical distance separating them.

The track unfolds a brief yet evocative romantic narrative set against the backdrop of Tehran’s vibrant nightlife. The seamless interplay between the song’s meticulous production, poignant lyrics, and Golsa’s emotive vocal performance brings the essence of the city’s nocturnal energy to life, fully embodying the imagery suggested by the title. This song is more than a compelling musical piece; it is a pivotal moment for Iran’s EDM scene. It exemplifies what can be achieved when the genre embraces vocal accompaniment—a direction that, despite its immense potential, remains relatively underexplored in Iranian music.

In this sense, Shabhaye Tehran sets a high standard and offers inspiration for the next generation of Iranian musicians seeking to push boundaries within this domain. Golsa, in particular, continues to distinguish herself as an artist who is unafraid to step into new territories. Her frequent collaborations with a diverse range of artists and bands have not only broadened her creative horizons but have also solidified her position as a transformative figure in contemporary Iranian music. Her ability to excel across genres is undeniable, and with the success of Shabhaye Tehran, she raises the bar for herself and others. As 2025 approaches, the anticipation for Golsa’s next artistic evolution is high, and we expect her to surpass even the achievements of this landmark year.

5. Mersad x Dousti - TNTV

One of the standout duets in Persian rap in 2024 was the dynamic collaboration between Mersad and Arian Dousti. Their partnership marked a turning point in both artists’ careers, culminating in a signature style that has left an indelible mark on Iranian music.

After years of relentless dedication and experimentation, they have achieved a sound that feels both groundbreaking and deeply authentic. A vital contributor to this success was their collaboration with Reeveshoots, the visionary responsible for the visual identity of all their projects this year. Reeveshoots’ innovative approach has not only elevated Mersad’s artistic persona but also set a new standard for the fusion of music and visuals in the Iranian music scene. Their hit track TNTV, an acronym for “Tehran NewSchool Tehran Vintage,” exemplifies their artistic ingenuity. In this piece, Mersad embraces the Boom Bap style, presenting a persona that masterfully blends gravitas with sharp humor. Like a skilled stand-up comedian, he invites listeners into his vividly imaginative world, enriched with innovative concepts, clever references, and distinctive wordplay. This track is a testament to his ability to create an unparalleled narrative style that has yet to be replicated in Persian rap.

TNTV, along with Mersad’s other releases this year, embodies the ambition and creative drive of a young rapper determined to carve out his own path. By adhering to his unique artistic formula rather than following prevailing trends, Mersad has established himself as one of the most compelling voices in Persian rap. His approach has not only earned him a devoted following but has also positioned him as a trendsetter in the genre.

Looking ahead, 2025 appears poised to be a landmark year for Mersad, with anticipated collaborations with leading figures in Persian rap. These ventures promise to accelerate his journey toward even greater acclaim and solidify his place as one of the most influential artists shaping the future of Persian rap.

6. Churooks - Daad

In recent years, Iran’s independent music scene has been heavily influenced by rap artists, with the genre dominating the cultural landscape. However, the emergence of fresh voices and bands in other genres is steadily reshaping this dynamic. One standout example is Churooks, an exciting new band formed by four young Iranian musicians—Arash Sadr, Bardia Alavi, Ali Soleimani, and Kourosh Aminzadeh

Officially launching their career in 2023 with the release of their debut single Jaye Man Nist, Churooks has quickly gained recognition for their unique approach to music. The emergence of an innovative Iranian funk band like Churooks marks a turning point in the country’s contemporary music scene—particularly for fans who have long craved a revival of this genre. Their second release, Daad, is a testament to the band’s ambition: seamlessly blending the rhythmic pulse and groove of funk with melodies and stylistic elements that resonate deeply with Iranian audiences. Beyond its vibrant musicality, the track also stands out for its lyrical depth and ingenuity—a trait often absent in other subgenres of Iranian rock, contributing to their waning popularity. As its title suggests, Daad serves as a powerful outlet for the frustration and anger that stem from the chaotic reality of life in Tehran.

The song masterfully portrays the disillusionment of young Iranians, weaving vivid and relatable images of the city’s urban chaos with surreal, almost dreamlike references. This duality not only mirrors the inner turmoil of a generation grappling with uncertainty but also pays homage to Tehran as both muse and battleground. While Churooks has demonstrated remarkable potential, their relatively sparse output—releasing just two tracks in 2024—has left some fans longing for more. Nonetheless, their live performances across Tehran last year were met with immense enthusiasm, reflecting a rapidly growing fanbase and the promise of an even brighter future.

With their bold artistic vision and a foundation already in place, Churooks seems poised to make 2025 a defining year in their journey.

7. Erfam - Hamin Yebar

Erfam, who secured a spot on The Persian Magazine’s 2023 list of best tracks with his bold release Bros Over Hoes, has once again cemented his position as one of the most promising figures in Iranian music with his track, Hamin Yebar. Despite his youth, Erfam’s approach to crafting his musical identity is strikingly mature.

He deftly balances his roots in Persian rap with a fearless exploration of alternative musical landscapes, carving out a space that transcends the confines of current trends. Rather than following the well-trodden paths of mainstream Persian rap, Erfam’s artistic journey reveals an allegiance to innovation and individuality. Across the five tracks he released last year, not one adhered to the dominant currents of the genre. Instead, his work reflects a conscious effort to appeal to listeners with more nuanced and eclectic tastes, often bridging the gap between Persian rap and the sensibilities of indie and alternative rock.

Hamin Yebar stands as the crowning achievement of this bold vision, embodying his artistic ambition and offering a glimpse into his potential evolution as a musician. Beginning his career as a rapper at a young age, Erfam remains part of the Persian rap community. Yet, his gradual and deliberate departure from mainstream conventions underscores a bravery that sets him apart. With every step, he ventures closer to establishing himself as a formidable voice in the Iranian indie-rock scene, offering hope to music lovers eager to see the genre flourish in new directions. What truly sets Erfam apart, however, is his exceptional lyricism—a skill honed during his years in rap.

This lyrical prowess shines in Hamin Yebar, a heartfelt romantic elegy that resists the allure of superficiality. Its poignant and introspective tone stands in stark contrast to the often formulaic output of mainstream music, marking it as a rare gem in the Iranian music landscape. Erfam’s artistry signals the rise of a young musician whose boldness and authenticity resonate with global standards, yet remain deeply rooted in Iranian sensibilities. With Hamin Yebar, he not only redefines his own artistic trajectory but also expands the possibilities of what Iranian music can achieve.

8. Pozx - Begoo Kojaei

Begoo Kojaei holds a unique and distinguished place in Iranian music this year, not only for its musical innovation but also for its significance as a groundbreaking project. This song marked a milestone for our magazine, as it was the first time we officially collaborated with a musician to produce a music video. Through Begoo Kojaei, Pozx ventured boldly beyond his established boundaries, crafting a sound that seamlessly blends the groovy energy of funk, the introspective vibes of indie, and the smooth sensuality of R&B soul.

The result is a captivating piece that resonated deeply with audiences, earning widespread acclaim and solidifying Pozx’s reputation as one of the most daring artists in Iran’s alternative music scene. Although Pozx released only a handful of songs last year, his impact remains unparalleled. Known for his ability to reinvent himself with every release, he consistently brings fresh ideas and new energy to his work, ensuring his music remains unpredictable and exciting.

This courage and creativity are what set him apart, making him a favorite among fans of alternative music. In an exclusive interview I conducted with Pozx for the second issue of The Persian Magazine, he shared insights into the inspiration behind Begoo Kojaei: “Begoo Kojaei” initially started as a loop session video that I shared on Instagram a while ago. After its release, I realized that this track had the potential to become a complete piece of music. So, I decided to finish the lyrics and release it as a single track. Coincidentally, the release date matched my meeting with the TPM team for an interview, photo shoot, and video shoot for the magazine. It was at that moment, after hearing the piece, that they suggested making a music video for the track.

We began brainstorming and gathering everything we wanted to include in the video. In essence, this piece for me is about “searching for something,” as opposed to others’ interpretations of “searching for someone.” In other words, everyone thinks that the title of the piece comes with a question mark and poses the question, “Where are you?” However, what I had in mind was a more imperative tone, as in “Tell me where you are right now, as soon as possible.”

9. Safir - DD

Safir has solidified his reputation as one of the most innovative figures in contemporary Iranian music, blending literary finesse with a bold willingness to evolve. In a year that saw many artists struggle to adapt to new industry dynamics, Safir stood out by redefining his artistic identity, embracing change, and challenging both himself and his audience. Following the release of his acclaimed album Kandoo in late 2023, Safir initiated a deliberate departure from the familiar paths he had cultivated over the years.

This transition was marked by a calculated shift in his musical structure, lyrical style, and even his overall creative approach, all tailored to align with the demands of a rapidly changing musical landscape. Over the past year, Safir’s output has been sparse yet impactful, consisting of only two tracks—Y! and DD. Both tracks were collaborations with producers outside the Melli label, signaling a significant departure from his previous artistic circle. Y! was produced by Ehsan Zia (Atour), while DD featured production by Danial Motreb

These collaborations not only introduced fresh sonic elements to Safir’s music but also reinforced his commitment to experimentation and reinvention. The accompanying music videos further highlighted his transformation, showcasing a new visual aesthetic that complements his evolving sound. One of the most striking aspects of Safir’s recent work is the linguistic evolution of his lyrics. He has adopted a simpler literary tone, moving away from the layered complexities of his earlier works. This simplicity, however, is not a compromise but a deliberate artistic choice, enabling him to confine his narratives within tighter frameworks. This newfound precision enhances the emotional depth of his songs while making them more accessible to a wider audience. DD, in particular, serves as a pivotal moment in Safir’s ongoing artistic journey. The track embodies his efforts to embrace a more fluid approach to the creative process—a significant departure from his historically meticulous and tension-driven methods. This transition is guided by three overarching objectives: 1) Redefining Rhythm: Rhythm has always been a cornerstone of Safir’s work, often characterized by unconventional patterns that create deliberate tension. With DD, he seeks to explore new rhythmic possibilities that feel more natural and fluid. 2) Cohesion in Narratives: Safir has historically favored parallel narratives in his lyrics, allowing his songs to unfold through multiple, often fragmented, storylines. In DD, he prioritizes a more unified and interconnected lyrical structure, offering listeners a seamless and immersive experience. 3) Demonstrating Resilience: In an increasingly competitive musical landscape, where many of his contemporaries have faltered, Safir aims to prove not only his artistic relevance but also his ability to thrive under pressure.

DD showcases his adaptability and willingness to innovate, ensuring his place among the leading voices in Iranian music. Despite releasing only two tracks in 2024, Safir’s meticulous approach to his craft has ensured that his work remains at the forefront of Iranian music. DD stands as a testament to his ongoing evolution, offering a glimpse into the future of his artistry while reaffirming his position as one of the most influential musicians of his generation. Whether he releases one track or an entire album, Safir’s commitment to quality and innovation guarantees his presence among the year’s top songs.

10. Hoodadk4 x Atour - Bi Kineh

Persian rap has always thrived on its dynamic evolution, driven by distinct voices that define its eras. From its inception, where the simultaneous influence of pioneers like Hichkas and Zedbazi created its foundation, Persian rap has continuously evolved, shaped by the dominance of singular artists who encapsulate the spirit of their time. After Ali Sorena‘s poetic depth in the second era and Hiphopologist‘s intellectual rigor in the third, the fourth era belongs indisputably to Hoodadk4

With his innovative approach and unparalleled versatility, Hoodadk4 has revolutionized the identity of Persian rap, merging bold musical experimentation with a relatable cultural resonance. The year 2024 marked the zenith of Hoodadk4’s career, a period in which he transcended his role as a member of the Kakato become the defining voice of Persian rap. His meteoric rise, fueled by an unprecedented expansion of his audience, cemented his status as the most prominent rapper of this era. At the heart of this triumph lies Bi Kineh, a track from Encounters, the ambitious project helmed by Ehsan Zia (Atour). Among the album’s standout pieces, Bi Kineh emerged as a defining moment—not just for Hoodadk4, but for Persian rap as a whole. Collaborative spirit played a pivotal role in Hoodadk4’s success.

Over the past year, he has worked with some of the most acclaimed producers in the Iranian music scene, including Arian Dousti, Ashkan Kagan, Atour, Mez’rab, and others. These collaborations served as creative challenges, pushing Hoodadk4 to explore a wide spectrum of styles and genres. This adaptability, paired with his ability to authentically connect with listeners, set him apart as a true innovator. In many ways, Hoodadk4’s prolific output in 2024 made him a contender for multiple spots on this list of top tracks.

Yet, Bi Kineh stands out as the crown jewel of his career—a track that not only epitomizes his artistic evolution but also captures the zeitgeist of Persian rap’s current landscape. With its intricate production, powerful lyricism, and emotional depth, Bi Kineh is more than just a song; it is a cultural milestone, affirming Hoodadk4’s place at the forefront of Iranian music.

11. Kajcool, Nellyfou, Faraz Keshvari - Nameh

The phenomenon of Iranian music in 2024 might very well be this extraordinary three-member band composed of Kajcool, Nellyfou, and Faraz Keshavarz, who have opened an entirely fresh and distinct window onto Iran’s music scene. Rarely in recent years has a band within Iran’s alternative music landscape achieved such a cohesive artistic vision while simultaneously creating a discourse so refined and unique.

Their seamless blend of musical innovation and visual storytelling has established them as a standout presence. With each member bringing unparalleled creativity to the table, they deliver musical experiences that captivate listeners eager for a fresh and daring sound in Iranian music. Their latest song, Nameh, featured on their EP Dushe Abe Sard (Cold Shower), serves as a striking example of their artistry. A reinterpretation of the late Habib Mohebbian’s iconic track of the same name—originally released two decades ago on his album Javuni—the band breathes new life into this beloved piece with a bold, transformative approach.

By reimagining the song within a disco framework infused with funky undertones, they honor the essence of the original while crafting something entirely new. This balance between innovation and homage is a testament to their artistic depth and sensitivity. Choosing a cover song as one of the year’s best tracks might seem unconventional, yet their rendition of Nameh is so masterfully executed that it transcends typical expectations of cover songs. Unlike the countless artists who merely replicate the original without adding any creative dimension, this band reinvents the track, infusing it with vibrant energy and a modern sensibility.

Their version not only stands apart but also elevates the song to a new level, demonstrating how reinterpretation can be both respectful and revolutionary. Beyond their musical achievements, the band’s attention to visual storytelling amplifies their impact. From crafting dynamic, engaging social media content to curating visually arresting elements that complement their music, they have proven themselves to be as compelling visually as they are sonically. Moreover, their relentless drive to carve a serious role in Iran’s music scene—through the prolific release of singles and albums as well as electrifying live performances—signals the rise of a band poised to redefine the boundaries of electronic music in Iran.

With Nameh, Kajcool, Nellyfou, and Faraz Keshavarz have not only revived a classic but also reshaped it into something unforgettable, establishing themselves as a beacon of innovation in Iranian music. Their hunger, creativity, and commitment to excellence make them a group to watch, as they continue to challenge and expand the possibilities of Iran’s alternative music scene.

12. Taraneh Azar - Prophet

Taraneh Azar, an Iranian-American artist, has been making waves with her unique blend of genres and compelling stage presence. Her track Prophet exemplifies her distinctive sound, seamlessly merging elements of grunge, deathrock, and shoegaze. The song’s dark, alluring, and enigmatic alternative rock aesthetic captivates listeners, showcasing Taraneh’s ability to transcend traditional genre boundaries.

Prophet features intimate and haunting vocals layered over a rich tapestry of grunge-inspired guitar riffs and atmospheric shoegaze textures. This fusion creates a sound that is both nostalgic and refreshingly innovative, appealing to a wide range of music enthusiasts. Taraneh’s incorporation of everyday sounds into her music adds an experimental edge, further distinguishing her work from contemporaries.

Her live performances are a testament to her dynamic artistry. Drawing inspiration from garage, punk, and rock influences, Taraneh’s stage presence is both commanding and engaging. Her attire and interaction with the audience reflect a deep connection to these genres, enhancing the overall experience and leaving a lasting impression on concertgoers.

The success of Prophet can be attributed to its genre-defying composition and Taraneh’s authentic expression. By blending various musical styles and infusing her personal artistic vision, she has crafted a track that resonates with a diverse audience. This broad appeal has propelled Prophet into the top 100 songs of the year, highlighting Taraneh Azar’s significant impact on the contemporary music scene.

13. Big Shaggy - All Eyez on Me

Big Shaggy has rapidly ascended as one of the most prominent figures in Persian rap, a testament to the transformative power of digital media platforms in amplifying underground talent. Hailing from Mashhad—a city historically celebrated as a hub for Iran’s underground music scene—Big Shaggy has reinvigorated its reputation, marking the first major breakthrough in years for a local artist across any genre.

Through his lyrics, he makes poignant references to Mashhad’s cultural and urban landscape, positioning Khorasan province as a potential new powerhouse for Persian rap, alongside established regions like Tehran, Hormozgan, Mazandaran, and Guilan. Big Shaggy embodies the depth and diversity of Persian rap’s reach across Iran. His electrifying performance on the YouTube show Esm Nadareh captured the collective attention of the Iranian music scene, showcasing his unparalleled ability to switch flows with ease, a delivery style that feels fresh and unique, and a playful, inventive approach to lyricism. These qualities cemented his arrival as a transformative force in Persian music with immense potential. His standout track, All Eyez on Me, takes its name from Tupac Shakur’s iconic song, a nod to the global roots of rap culture. Released under the Section 13and produced by Putak, the track culminates in a climactic final verse featuring a highly anticipated freestyle.

This freestyle, instrumental in his rise, had captivated fans online in an earlier performance, and its polished release solidified his reputation. Set against a backdrop of boom bap beats—a sound that gained renewed popularity among Iranian rappers in 2024—All Eyez on Me emerges as one of the year’s most defining Persian rap tracks. The song’s success underscores the genre’s vitality and its ability to push boundaries within Iranian music. Big Shaggy’s consistent output over the past year has proven that his achievements are far from coincidental.

With a deliberate, well-thought-out strategy, he has positioned himself not only as a rising star but also as a visionary shaping the future of Persian rap. As he looks toward 2025, his ambition and drive suggest an exciting trajectory filled with new releases and collaborations with other leading figures in the genre. Big Shaggy’s rise is more than just a personal victory—it is a bold statement about the limitless potential of Persian rap, solidifying its place as a dominant force in Iranian popular music.

14. Tlkhoon - Jooje

Released on May 30, 2024, Jooje by Tlkhoon, composed by Ali Janak, stands as one of the most defining tracks of the year and a pivotal moment in the trajectory of this young and innovative Iranian rapper. Coming off the back of his widely acclaimed lo-fi hit STANDBY, Tlkhoon wasted no time in showcasing his evolution with Jooje, a song that solidified his position as a leading voice in the latest chapter of Persian rap.

What sets Jooje apart is its inventive narrative and imaginative world-building, elements that have become synonymous with Tlkhoon’s artistry. True to his signature style, the song intertwines metaphorical and childlike elements to tell a romantic story that is refreshingly unconventional. Rather than adhering to the familiar tropes of love songs, Tlkhoon crafts a narrative that resonates deeply with teenagers, presenting a blend of realism and surrealism that feels intimate yet universal. This approach reflects a broader shift in Persian rap.

Unlike the earlier era, which often glorified a polished, invincible image of the rapper, Tlkhoon represents a new generation that embraces vulnerability and emotional depth. In Jooje, he unapologetically challenges traditional notions of strength and masculinity in rap, proving that weakness and introspection can coexist with the genre’s core identity. This bold stance not only sets him apart but also aligns him with the ethos of a new wave in Persian rap—a movement marked by its departure from the aggressive posturing and high-stakes tensions of previous years.

Tlkhoon’s refusal to conform to the clichés of earlier Persian rap—immortalized and satirized by Hiphopologist in his diss track Cheshm Dar Barabare Cheshm with lines like “guns, money, gangs, drugs, girls”—is a testament to his innovative spirit. Instead of striving to be the philosopher or alpha figure of his time, he positions himself as a storyteller, weaving tales that feel authentic and grounded in the everyday experiences of his audience.

Jooje encapsulates this fresh perspective and might well be considered a defining anthem for the new wave of Persian rap. In this era, the genre no longer revolves around hypermasculinity or grandiose ambitions but rather embraces introspection, relatability, and creative experimentation. Tlkhoon, with his ability to balance these elements, has become one of the most exciting artists shaping the future of Iranian music, and Jooje serves as a powerful testament to his vision and artistry.

15. Neusha - Sol’s Heartbreak

“Bound by lyricism, not genre” perfectly captures the essence of 20-year-old London-based singer-songwriter Neusha Sally Gray. Drawing inspiration from poetic greats like Mahmoud Darwish and musical icons such as Jeff Buckley, Neusha crafts songs that transcend genres, seamlessly blending soul, R&B, pop/rock, and even bossa nova.

Sol’s Heartbreak, released in March 2024, is a mirrored reflection of Neusha’s artistry and lyrical depth. The song’s foundation lies in its warm rhythm guitar and piano, which create a delicate backdrop for her evocative vocals. However, what truly elevates the track is the intricate vocal harmonies. Gradually introduced, these harmonies come to the forefront in the latter half, shaping the song’s tonal and dynamic progression. The acoustic instrumentation adds an organic and raw quality, making the track feel alive and deeply personal.

Despite being an independent artist, Neusha has been steadily building her reputation in the past few years. Performing regularly in London, with occasional appearances in cities like Paris and Lisbon, she has grown into a seasoned live performer, celebrated for her authenticity and emotional connection with audiences. With Sol’s Heartbreak, she showcases her ability to blend heartfelt storytelling with innovative musicality.

Neusha’s journey is just beginning, and her dedication to expressing her worldview through her music promises a bright future. As we move into 2025, the anticipation for what she’ll create next continues to grow.

16. GCCDKID - DAP!

The latest wave of Persian rap represents a seamless fusion of the genre’s previous two waves, blending the poetic depth of its earlier years with a modern, accessible sensibility. This evolution is marked by a shift toward more straightforward, relatable lyrics and musical elements designed to resonate with a wider audience. Rappers from this era often employ a deliberate yet moderate use of English terms, integrate various literary devices, and prioritize crafting a compelling social media presence to amplify their reach.

One of the most striking examples of this new wave is GccdKid, a young rapper whose journey has captured the attention of Persian rap enthusiasts. Although he officially launched his career in 2022 with the release of GCCDDAY!, it was his track DAP!, released in September 2024, that truly catapulted him into the spotlight. Self-composed and brimming with energy, DAP! quickly cemented GccdKid’s status as a rising star in the Persian rap scene, earning him recognition as a leading figure in the genre’s next chapter.

What makes GccdKid particularly intriguing is his ability to convey confidence and artistic vision at such an early stage of his career. Despite his modest Instagram following—still under 1,000—his trajectory points to inevitable stardom. DAP! serves as the undeniable turning point in his professional journey, signaling his potential to reshape the future of Iranian rap. His ability to consistently produce high-quality tracks following this release demonstrates both his skill and his unwavering belief in his own success. For music enthusiasts, there is something uniquely rewarding about witnessing the early ascent of an artist poised for greatness.

GccdKid’s story is unfolding in real time, and DAP! is a defining milestone in his evolution. If you are someone who delights in discovering raw talent before it reaches the mainstream, now is the time to tune in. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience the genesis of a musician who is set to become one of the most influential voices in Persian rap.

17. Danakol x Mez'rab - Maze

Since embarking on his official career in 2021, Danakol has carefully carved out his own niche in the Persian rap scene, adopting a stance of observation rather than expectation. Rather than aiming for immediate fame or success, he has focused on enjoying the journey and exploring new, uncharted creative territories. This deliberate approach has allowed him to develop a sound that is both distinct and refreshingly unique, setting him apart from the majority of his peers in the genre. His lyricism stands as a testament to his individuality, defying the common tropes and styles of mainstream Persian rap.

As a result, his presence has remained somewhat under the radar, especially among mainstream rap listeners. Danakol seems to occupy a space on the fringes of Persian rap, balancing between the genre’s traditional elements and alternative, experimental styles. His track Maze, a collaboration with the renowned Persian rap producer Mez’rab and the Divar label, marks a significant milestone in his career. This track, infused with a nostalgic old-school vibe reminiscent of the early days of Persian rap, has emerged as his most successful work to date. Mez’rab, known for his collaborations with emerging artists, has once again proven his dedication to supporting talent outside the mainstream. Like fellow producer Atour, Mez’rab’s philosophy seems centered on fostering the careers of lesser-known but promising figures in the music scene.

What makes Maze stand out is its seamless blend of vintage rap aesthetics and modern sensibilities. Danakol’s lyricism in this track strikes a careful balance between staying true to Persian rap’s roots while incorporating clever English phrases and a fresh, relatable delivery. This combination, coupled with his signature delivery style, makes the track accessible to a broader audience, extending beyond the confines of typical rap fans. Danakol’s potential within Iran’s music scene is undeniable.

While his exact career ambitions remain somewhat ambiguous, there is a palpable sense of anticipation surrounding his future work. As he continues to hone his craft and explore new musical frontiers, his journey promises to be one worth watching. His trajectory in the coming years will surely reveal whether he aims to redefine the boundaries of Persian rap or if he is content to remain a unique, artistic voice on the periphery. Regardless, Danakol’s work has already proven to be a refreshing addition to the evolving landscape of Iranian music.

18. The Blackoutwhale - Khab Yerooz

When one listens to Khab Yerooz, the immediate impression is of its remarkable precision, meticulous craftsmanship, and sheer flawlessness in production. This track exemplifies the critical element that could elevate Iranian music to unprecedented heights: the unwavering dedication of young musicians to creating works that meet global standards. The Blackoutwhale, a seasoned electric guitar player and accomplished producer with deep roots in the Persian rap scene, embarks on a bold and transformative journey with this release. Stepping beyond his established domain, he ventures into a challenging terrain where his artistic voice evolves into something entirely new. For many composers and instrumentalists, the shift toward singing often ends in disappointment.

Yet, The Blackoutwhale defies this trend by delivering a profoundly personal interpretation of indie and electronic music that resonates within the Iranian music scene. His inclusion in this prestigious list of top songs for 2024 is a testament to his extraordinary success. At this point, it is no exaggeration to declare that The Blackoutwhale is setting a new benchmark for indie music in Iran, offering a sound that not only stands out locally but also holds its own against global contemporaries. For music enthusiasts, his rise is a promising sign—a beacon of hope that young Iranian musicians, equipped with a sophisticated grasp of the global music landscape, can create works that transcend geographical boundaries.

Khab Yerooz is a vivid reflection of The Blackoutwhale’s evolving artistic vision and an emblem of the aspirations of a new generation of Iranian musicians. It signals a cultural shift, where innovation and ambition drive artists to envision their work on an international scale. As such, this track is not just a standout piece but also a harbinger of what the future of Iranian music can achieve.

19. Mostafa Nist - My Room

As I write this, Mostafa‘s monthly listeners on Spotify remain fewer than the fingers on two hands. This strikingly modest figure highlights his relative obscurity within the Iranian music scene, a stark contrast to the broader recognition his brother, Matin Fattahi, enjoys. Yet, numbers can be deceptive. Beyond their undeniable influence in measuring success, they fail to capture the essence of Mostafa’s artistry. His rare creativity in expressing emotions and his extraordinary talent for weaving surreal, childlike yet deeply relatable narratives shine brilliantly in his track My Room

At its core, My Room employs a simple, even repetitive structure. But it is within this simplicity that Mostafa’s genius emerges. Layering environmental sounds—such as chirping birds and distant thunder—with playful ad-libs and whimsical audio effects evocative of children’s programming, he crafts an imaginative and straightforward story about the surreal presence of a giant in his bedroom. This minimalist yet vividly evocative approach masterfully blends fantasy and simplicity, creating a unique listening experience that resonates deeply with audiences. For any musician, a single work can serve as a powerful testament to their creative potential.

In releasing My Room, Mostafa has not only demonstrated his exceptional talent but has also gifted Iranian music enthusiasts a rare glimpse into a world shaped by his distinctive vision. Remarkably, this was the only track he released in the past year—a fact that adds a layer of intrigue to his story. In a time when Iranian music is in dire need of fresh perspectives and innovative voices, artists like Mostafa hold the promise of redefining the landscape.

Yet, given his minimal output and enigmatic presence, it remains uncertain whether he will continue to create with the same vigor in the year ahead. Regardless, My Room stands as a testament to the boundless potential of an artist who, even in his relative obscurity, has managed to leave an indelible mark.

20. Yashar - Zahre Mar

Yashar is among the promising young Iranian musicians who made their professional debut in 2024. His music defies easy categorization, as his small yet diverse body of work spans genres such as electronic, alternative rock, deep house, and melodic techno.

This versatility has positioned him as an artist whose next move remains a mystery, captivating audiences with the unpredictability of his creative choices. One of Yashar’s standout achievements this year is his track Zahre Mar, a compelling piece that showcases his knack for minimalistic yet impactful composition.

The song is built around a simple, repetitive structure of four-syllable lines, paired with a stripped-down melody featuring guitar and piano. By resisting the temptation to embellish the music or lyrics unnecessarily, Yashar has crafted a work of striking originality and emotional resonance. The breadth of styles an artist like Yashar embraces can be both an asset and a challenge. On the one hand, it allows him to draw listeners from diverse musical tastes; on the other, it risks diluting his artistic identity in the minds of his audience.

This dual-edged nature of creative exploration makes Yashar’s journey particularly intriguing, as he walks the fine line between versatility and coherence. While Zahre Mar has been met with positive acclaim from listeners, it serves as only the beginning of Yashar’s artistic journey.

As we look ahead to 2025, the question remains: what new sounds and styles will this enigmatic musician bring to the forefront of Iranian music? One thing is certain—Yashar’s evolving artistry is one to watch closely.
