The rise and fall of Persian drill
Few musical movements in recent decades have captured the raw tension of urban life with the immediacy and urgency of U.K. drill. Emerging in the early 2010s from the council estates of South London—particularly Brixton and Peckham—it emerged as a raw, uncompromising voice for a generation grappling with the harsh realities of life on the…

Vinak And Kagan Release New Studio Album ‘TNT’ Along With 5 Music Videos

The release of an album titled “TNT” by Vinak with production by Ashkan Kagan, coinciding with the eve of Chaharshanbeh Soori, a Persian traditional festival, could be interpreted as a metaphorical explosion of Persian rap by him this year.

The album consists of 15 tracks, with 5 tracks including Squad Shemroon, Bedehkar, Tejarat, Shemroon Hills, and Tooye Khiyaboon along with music videos being released. One of the weaknesses that most Iranian rappers face when operating within music labels is the repetitive nature of their sounds and the structure of their works due to the lack of collaboration with other producers outside the label’s framework. The presence of nearly 20 Iranian producers with different tastes in this album, including the familiar face of contemporary Persian rap, 6ehtash, indicates Vinak’s ingenuity and deep understanding in challenging himself while broadening the scope of his album with various forms.

Another noteworthy and unexpected aspect of this album is his lack of collaboration with any Iranian rappers, despite Vinak having collaborated with prominent figures in Persian rap such as Hiphopologist, Arta, Koorosh, Chvrsi, Sepehr Khalseh, Young Sudden, and others throughout his professional career. Undoubtedly, Vinak is currently experiencing a turning point in his career.

His unprecedented ambition and high aspirations in 2024 can serve as the best model for the new generation of Iranian rappers, following his adventurous journey in 2023. After the successful release of the album Peymod Be Shemroon in collaboration with Hiphopologist, the release of another album almost a month later demonstrates Vinak’s unparalleled motivation to stand among the most prominent figures in contemporary Persian rap, a reason previously cited as the main factor for him being the best possible choice for joining the Belaad label. Therefore, among the plethora of songs and albums released in 2024 in the Persian rap scene, without a doubt, Vinak has been one of the most successful Iranian rapper of the current year. With the release of 24 tracks, including two albums and a single track titled Chief Keef in the album “Paranoia” by Arman Miladi, contrary to previous years where competition among the new generation of Iranian rappers revolved around only a few names, from now on, Vinak should also be considered one of these figures, and we should follow his career more closely.
