Designer Paria Farzaneh has created a striking and thought-provoking piece, named ‘Memory Suit,’ that serves as a cultural archive. The blazer, made of transparent PVC, is not so much a prêt-à-porter piece of clothing, but rather a display case for a curated collection of everyday Iranian objects from 2015-2024.
The clear material of the blazer allows for full visibility of the carefully selected items, each with nostalgic packaging reminiscent of long-gone previous decades. Embedded within the jacket are artifacts such as a box of Tavakoli matches, a package of Barf laundry powder, and a pack of Bahman cigarettes. These mundane objects take on new significance as preserved iconic relics—Tavakoli itself, for example, being Iran’s oldest surviving consumer brand, first established over a century ago.
Other items that the designer has used are old cassette tapes, prayer beads, as well as what appears to be a Judo badge.
